“What Works” Seminar for Legal Interns
July 22, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:15 pm
Every year, CPBLS hosts two FREE seminars over the summer for legal interns entitled, “What Works for Me in Practice”. We have five (sometimes six!) 30-minute segments and allow the speakers to cover any subject related to their profession. For example: common pitfalls as an attorney, progression through the legal field to current position, and mental health and substance abuse concerns within our profession.
This year, we had our first seminar on May 20, 2016, and it had great attendance and a fabulous line of up speakers. Law students from across the United States clerking in Charleston were treated to a powerhouse speaker lineup of Charleston County Bar members Gedney M. Howe, III, CCBA President Brian Duffy, Wilbur Johnson, The Honorable Michèle Forsythe, John Robinson, and Cameron Blazer. We appreciate all of these exceptional attorneys’ willingness to support CPBLS with their time and talents!
Our second seminar is scheduled for the morning of July 22, 2016 and will be hosted at the Charleston School of Law.
The agenda is as follows:
09:15-09:45am: The Honorable Deadra L. Jefferson, Resident Circuit Judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit
09:45-10:15am: Rhett C. Dunaway, Esquire, Ninth Circuit Public Defender’s Office
10:15-10:30am: BREAK
10:30-11:00am: Alice F. Paylor, Esquire, Rosen Rosen & Hagood, LLC
11:00-11:30 am Peter Shahid, Esquire, Shahid Law Office, LLC
11:30-11:45am: BREAK
11:45-12:15pm: James L. Ward Jr., Esquire, Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman, LLC
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from various perspectives within our legal community. We will also emphasize the importance of public service work – from working in the public defender’s office, to serving your community by holding public office, to even serving as the President for the South Carolina Bar!
All law students clerking in Charleston this summer are encouraged to attend! Please register with Alissa Lietzow at ALietzow@charlestonprobono.org to reserve your spot as space is limited.
We look forward to seeing you there!
